Review Collection #6 - The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury

Review Collection is a feature to help people decide if they want to read the featured book (let me know if you found it useful). So, the idea is that I shall be choosing one book and then sharing a range of reviews, of this book from various blogs. Allowing you to get a feel for the different opinions surrounding that book.

Synopsis From Goodreads

When Aladdin discovers Zahra's jinni lamp, Zahra is thrust back into a world she hasn't seen in hundreds of years—a world where magic is forbidden and Zahra's very existence is illegal. She must disguise herself to stay alive, using ancient shape-shifting magic, until her new master has selected his three wishes.

But when the King of the Jinn offers Zahra a chance to be free of her lamp forever, she seizes the opportunity—only to discover she is falling in love with Aladdin. When saving herself means betraying him, Zahra must decide once and for all: is winning her freedom worth losing her heart?

As time unravels and her enemies close in, Zahra finds herself suspended between danger and desire in this dazzling retelling of Aladdin from acclaimed author Jessica Khoury.

As you can see the majority of people have enjoyed this book, but -as ever- that are other's who weren't quite as enthralled by this Aladdin retelling. Some people think it was to slow and lacked description of the world, other's just didn't connect with the character's. However, this is actually a book I have read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will be doing a full review for this book on Thursday (16th June) I gave 4.5 stars. I loved the main characters, the political tensions and mystery of Zarah's history, all woven together in this beautiful and enchanting writing style.

As always I want to know what you thought - let me know in the comments:

Have you read this book? What did you think of it (feel free to just type or you can share link to a review)?

Was this review collection helpful?
Have these reviews made you want to read the book or made you hesitate to pick it up?

  1. Good pick! I really enjoyed this one myself - I'm glad you did too, Deborah! It does seem like most people have liked it quite a bit.
Loving how you sum up a lot of opinions in these :)

    1. This review collection was the first where I had actually read the book before doing the 'collecting my thoughts' section so it was hard not to be biased, because of my own love for the book, hopefully I managed to keep it balanced.

I think it is important that I do sum up the opinions, because I know that realistically most people aren't going to read through all those reviews!

  2. This book was on my wishlist for a while. I love this post and your review collection (and especially that you included some booktubers, that is awesome). I have found most people that have similar tastes didn't like this retelling. I still might check it out. Aladdin was one of my favorite stories.

    1. It's always interesting finding and reading all the different reviews, and I have found so far that there are so many more bloggers review's than booktuber's reviews for a book. I had never read any re-telling of Aladdin and the fact that I loved The Wrath and The Dawn (a re-telling of 1001 nights) so much is why I added it to my TBR.

Would love to hear from you!
