SYNOPSIS FROM GOODREADS
There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books.
Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives.

MY THOUGHTS
Lets get a little confession out of the way first: I have never read any of V.E Schwab's books! I know I am one of the few and I have been meaning to rectify this for months but I haven't managed it yet. This book however is where I think I am going to start, it has been out here in the UK for just over a month and it came out in the US earlier this week and as you can see from above the general feel for this book is that it was a good read (it was difficult to find ANY review with a low number of stars!)
So from reading some of the above reviews I have gleaned some the pros and a few cons about This Savage Song, so here they are:
1) The beginning was a bit confusing, which I think is to be expected in this kind of book as you learn the culture and the setting is built.
2) There was however, a love for the dark world, although one person felt it was a bit vague and again slightly confusing.
3) Everyone seemed to love the two main characters their slow growing friendship and I am getting a bit of a Romeo and Juliette feel. There was also a mention that all the characters in this book were well developed and 'fleshed out' even if they were secondary characters.
4) Always got to love a book that has blurred lines between the 'good' and the 'bad' got to like that 'greyness'!!
5) People enjoyed the tension and found it thrilling, in a few of the 4 star review it was mentioned that the books just 'lacked something' that they couldn't pin point!
